CHALLENGE

Where can you eat in town for under $10. As most locals do, I eat out a lot, so finding the money spots ( no pun intended ) can be a good thing. Here are the deal.

RULES:

1. Must be able to eat with a $10 bill including tax and tip.
2. Drink is extra, but if its included then you get a bonus point.

RATING SYSTEM:
The food will be rated on 3 points.

TASTE: 5 points
SERVICE: 3 points
INCLUDES DRINK: 1 point
ATMOSPHERE: 1 point

PS. I reserve the right to change the rating system if I want, cause its my challenge. If you have your own review or a suggestion of a place to eat, email me at slop@everydaywhistler.ca

$5 Breakfast at Brasserie des Artist

As you can see you don't get too much for $5 ( plus the purchase of a drink ). I decided to get a coffee. So for $7.50 plus a tip you get breakfast for under $10.

TASTE 3/5: The food was good, all thing considered. Sausages get 1 point, eggs were 1 point. The toast was weak and there was only 1 stringy little piece soaked in butter so no points there. The coffee wasn't very good either so no points there. There really wasn't anything about it that you could call special but for $5 bucks what can you do. So taste gets 3.

SERVICE 3/3:
Surprising the service was awesome. When we arrived it took about 10 minutes for her to get to us, but once she did she was friendly, funny and laughed at my jokes. The food came quick and she checked in on us 3 times in perfect intervals. Worthy of the full 20% tip. So 3 Points

INCLUDES DRINK 0/1: Even though I had to order a drink, I find it a cheeky marketing trick to sell breakfast for $5 and require the purchase of a Drink, which means it is actually $7.50. I would prefer if it said breakfast for $7.50 and includes a coffee. Cause how much does coffee really cost ? come on ! I need that $2.50 for parking. So I'm not giving a point for this because I feel cheated.

ATMOSPHERE 1/1: Good little spot, cozy and fun. Great for people watching and comfortable tables and chairs. 1 point.

VERDICT 7/10: So the $5 breakfast gets 7 points, not too bad. However there is a catch. Make sure you get there before 12:00. I arrived at 12:10 and they only serve it till noon. Pleading with the waitress doesn't help if you don't get your order in by 11:45 you will be slapped with a $15 bill plus tip. Here is the kicker, they sell the same $5 breakfast after 12:00 for $11 + drink that's over 110% increase. Especially when they say breakfast all day.....hmmmm.

2 Breakfasts with a side of eggs ran us $35 with tip. What do you think ?

Nesters Market Deli Counter

Today I thought I would construct my own lunch, so I went to Nesters Market and got myself a deli sandwhich with a bag of chips and and Ice tea. Total Cost $9.94.

TASTE 4/5: Other than the bread being a little tough and somewhat of a workout for the mouth, the sandwich was good. It opted for the Ham and Cheese version with a plain bag of chips. I have had this sandwich a few times and I always enjoy it.

SERVICE 3/3: Since it was self serve, and I'm awesome ! I did a great job at picking exactly what I wanted and getting served in a timely manner. The check out girls are always super polite too, so they get 1 point.

INCLUDES DRINK 1/1: Check and Check

ATMOSPHERE 1/1: I love sitting outside on Nester's Patio. It is always a hot spot for the lunch going crew. Locals come in droves, so its the best atmosphere anyone can ask for.

VERDICT 9/10:If you are in a hurry and need a good solid meal to take through the rest of the day, then I highly recommend Nester's Deli Counter Pre made Sandwiches. You can go the healthy root and get the apple instead of the chips and knock additional $0.50 off the price. Plus if you have a Nesters points card, after 100 meals you can get a free one with points.
